Road bike tune-up

A tune-up gets your road bike shifting cleanly, stopping well and riding quietly again. We check it over with you at drop-off and talk price before the work starts.

What's in a tune-up

  • Safety check of the frame, fork, wheels, tires, brakes and cockpit
  • Shifting adjustment front and rear, including limit screws and cable tension (or electronic trim)
  • Brake adjustment, rim or disc, and pad check
  • Drivetrain clean and lube, with a chain wear check
  • Wheels checked for true and loose spokes
  • Bolts checked and torqued to the manufacturer's spec, which matters on carbon parts

The exact checklist for each tune-up level is confirmed at drop-off [CONFIRM]. Prices: ask [CONFIRM].

Tune-up or full service?

A tune-up is the right choice for a bike that's mostly working and needs dialing in. If your bike gets ridden hard, has been sitting for a long time, or has noises and rough bearings, our full service / overhaul goes further. Not sure? Bring it in and we'll tell you honestly which one it needs.

Signs your bike is due

  • Shifting skips, hesitates or makes noise under load
  • Brakes squeal, rub or need more lever travel than before
  • A creak or click when you pedal hard or stand up
  • Your chain looks dry, dirty or rusty after coastal rides
  • You have a big ride or event coming up

How often depends on how much and where you ride. Our article how often to tune up a road bike covers it in detail, and the pre-ride checklist helps between visits.

Before you drop off

Electronic shifting? Charge the battery and bring the charger. Tell us about any noises and when they happen. If you have a race or event date, tell us so we can plan around it.

Questions riders ask

How long does a tune-up take?

It depends on the bike and how busy the bench is. We'll give you an expected pick-up time when you drop off.

Do you tune up bikes other than road bikes?

Yes. We work on road, triathlon, gravel and mountain bikes.

What does a tune-up cost?

Prices are confirmed when we see the bike, and we always go through the price with you before the work starts. Parts are quoted separately.
